Ahead of the opener of the 2017-18 Liberia football league season which is still yet unknown, Liberia first division and fa cup defending champions, LISCR Football Club has announced their preseason tournament which will begin Thursday, December 14 at the famous Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
In a press conference held at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on Monday, December 11, the club via the tournament organizing committee chairman, Mr. Harrington S. Weah announced that the tournament will feature eight teams from the first and second division. Watanga, Keitrace, Monrovia Club Breweries, NPA Anchor, Small Town, Bristol City, Pags and host LISCR FC are the eight participating teams.
Mr. Weah also disclosed that each participating teams were given the amount of US $ 250 which is equivalent to the 31,500 Liberian Dollars. At the press conference, the club representatives signed for the amount which was given as preparation fees.
The draw for the tournament was made during the press conference with club representatives and journalist participating. Four of the eight teams that played in the 2016-17 Liberia Football Association first division league were placed in pot 1 as they were consider as the seeded teams while the two first and second division new comers were placed in pot to be drawn against the seeded teams.
The draw brought Monrovia Club Breweries against first division new boys NPA Anchor in game one while Watanga host second division new comers in game two. Game three will see the host LISCR FC play against the national third division playoffs champions, Pags FC while Giant Killers, Keitrace FC will face newly promoted first division club, Small Town FC.
The tournament will commence December 14 when game one and two will be played. On Friday, December 15, the remaining two games in round one will be played between host LISCR and Pags in game one, and Keitrace against Small Town in game two.
The four winners from round one will progress to the semifinals where the winner from the first match will play the second match winner in the first semifinals match and the game three winner face game four winner in the second semifinal encounter. The two winners will progress to the final that will be played at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Sunday, December 17.
There will be no cash price for the runner-up that will only be given a trophy while the champions will walk away 30,000 Liberian Dollars plus a giant size trophy.
