Liberia played her second match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, September 9 against DR Congo at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex with three LISCR FC’s players playing the entire match which ended one apiece.
The head coach of Lonestar, Thomas Kojo included five of the six players invited in his match-day team and three were able to future while two made the substitute list.
Allen Njie, Tommy Songo and Kemoh Kamara played all the minutes against the Leopards of Congo while young goalkeeper, Ashley Williams and defensive midfielder, Saah Nyumah were unused substitutes. Sheku Sherriff who was made the final 22-man squad was left out of the match-day squad.
Youthful midfielder, Allen Njie made his competitive debut for Liberia against DR Congo while goalkeeper Tommy Songo was making his seventh appearance for the Lonestar. Kemoh Kamara who has represented Liberia at a senior WAFU Nations Cup and CHAN games made his first appearance in a nations cup qualifier.
After playing to a goalless draw in the first half, William Jebor gave Liberia the lead in the 61st minute before DR Congo leveled the score in the 83rd minute through Meshack Elia. Liberia remains bottom of Group G with a point from two games. Liberia lost her first match 3-0 against Zimbabwe away from home.
