Coach Tapha Manneh broke the LPRC Oilers’ barrier on Friday when he led the Shipping Boys to a hard-fought 2-1 win at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium to complete the first phase of the 2018 first division league.
Emmanuel Tarpeh and Prince Urey got the goals for LISCR in the eighth and 18th minute while LPRC Oilers got their consolation in the 77th minute through Randy Dukuly.
Siting second in Group B with five points from three games, two points less than LPRC Oilers that was seated at the top of the group, the Shipping Boys needed a win to finish the first phase on top. It was a game with difficult start but LISCR managed to score early to send a warning to their opponents. Prince Urey assisted Emmanuel Tarpeh who got the ball at the back of the net in the eighth minute to give LISCR the lead.
Ten minutes after taking the lead, Prince Urey got his third goal of the 2018 season and his second in the league when he hit the ball at the back of the net from Sheku Sheriff’s assist to double the lead. It was a well deserve start for the boys that had full control of the match in the early minutes played.
Ashley Williams who stood in goal for LISCR FC had no real test in the first half with his only save coming in the 38th minute through Dominic Jarteh. Williams made an easy save to deny LPRC from scoring in the first half as LISCR FC went to the break with a 2-0 lead.
Back from the break, Armah Vaikainah was introduced along with Alloy Brown who was making his first official appearance for the Shipping Boys. Six minutes after his introduction, Vaikainah had his first shot on target but was denied by LPRC Oilers’ goalkeeper.
Unlike the first half where LISCR enjoyed much of the possession, the second half turned out to be a competitive one with LPRC Oilers pushing for a consolation. They got their lone goal in the 77th minute through Randy Dukuly who scored from Aloysius Simujlah’s cross.
In the stoppage time of the match, LPRC Oilers nearly leveled the score through Randy Dukuly whose shot was denied by Ashley Williams. Williams made a diving save to keep the score at 2-1.
The win was Coach Tapha Manneh’s first over LPRC Oilers since arriving in Liberia 2016. He’s failed to win the Oil Boys from four meetings prior to the 2-1 win on Friday evening. The three points earned against LPRC Oilers took LISCR at the top of the LFA First Division Group B table. The Shipping Boys lead the table with one point over LPRC Oilers. Tapha Manneh’s boys are seated at the top of the table with eight points from four games while LPRC sits second with seven points from four games.
The second phase of the league will begin Sunday, September 16 when LISCR FC takes on LPRC Oilers in the return leg.
