LISCR FC continue their defense of the FA Cup on Thursday, September 20 when they beat Stages Football Club 5-0 in the second round at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
A brace from Prince Urey and a goal each from Varney Sando, Saah Nyumah, and Amadiah Kawah were enough to send the Shipping Boys to the quarterfinals of the 2018 FA Cup.
Tapha Manneh made six changes from the team that lost to 2-1 to LPRC Oilers. Tommy Songo returned to goal while there were places in the first eleven for Alloy Brown, Benjamin Doe, Sheku Sheriff, Mark Paye and Richard Lloyd.
The Shipping Boys had a difficult time in the first half where they failed to register a goal. However, they returned stronger in the second half to scored five goals. They opened the scoring 20 minutes in the second half through Prince Urey who scored from within the penalty area. Urey finished Varney Sando’s cross from the left to give the team the much-needed lead. Seven minutes after opening the scoring, Urey registered his second of the match with a perfect finish inches from the goal line. Varney Sando was again the provider as he ran through Stages FC’s defense before finding Urey who was on time to get the ball at the back of the net.
What appeared to be a difficult match for LISCR FC after failing to score a goal in the first 45 minutes turned out to be a goal feast as they added their third two minutes after the second goal. After receiving two assists to score twice, Urey became the provider for the third goal. Urey’s through-pass found Saah Nyumah who had no difficult time in reaching the ball to the net.
The towering defensive midfielder scored his first goal of the 2018 campaign to make it 3-0 for LISCR FC in the 74th minute before Varney Sando got is name in the score-sheet in the 78th minute. Varney Sando who provided the first two assists beat Stages’ goalkeeper, Vinah Smith with in goal to scored the fourth of the match.
With the score at 4-0 and 12 minutes to end the match, LISCR FC were the clear favorites to reach the third round. Down 4-0, it appeared to be over for Stages FC but they kept challenging the LISCR FC’s defense with the hope of getting consolation. Their consolation nearly arrived in the 81st minute through Stanley Parker whose shot was denied by Tommy Songo. Song made a diving save to prevent LISCR from conceding. Despite a 4-0 lead, the Shipping Boys didn’t relax as they kept knocking on Stages’ defense for their fifth. After few attempts, Amadiah Kawah scored his first of the 2018 campaign to increase the score-line. Kawah finished Hilton Varney’s cross from the left side to score LISCR fifth of the encounter. Kawah’s goal was the last of the day as LISCR FC advanced to the FA Cup quarterfinals.
LISCR FC will know their opponent for the quarterfinals on Wednesday, September 26 when the draw will be made.
