After two consecutive defeats in the 2018 LFA First Division League, LISCR FC returned to winning wayson Wednesday, September 26 with a 2-1 win over NPA Anchors on match day-8 of the first division league.
Goals from Varney Sando and Sam Kollie in each half were enough to help Tapha Manneh’s side return to pick up their first victory in three matches.
After an entertaining display in the opening minutes of the match, Varney Sando gave the LISCR the lead in the 20th minute. Sando scored from within the penalty area though an assist from Sam Kollie who was making his second appearance for the Shipping Boys.
Varney’s goal was the only of the first half as LISCR FC went to the break with a goal lead. However, NPA Anchors returned stronger in the second half in search of an equalizer. The Port Boys kept pushing for an equalizer until the 53rd minute when substitute defender, Myers Galo scored a deflected for from a set-piece.
Galo’s goal brought some pressure on LISCR FC that needed a win to bounce back from the back to back defeats. With NPA Anchors defense becoming very composed as the curtain drew down, it was difficult to see how LISCR would have taken the lead again, but Sando who got the first goal brought the light in the 79th minute when he dribbled his way down the right siide NPA Anchors’ defense and crossed the ball across the six-yard box where Sam Kollie was comfortably positioned to get the ball at the back of the net.
Kollie’s goal turned out to be the last of the match with LISCR preventing NPA from scoring again until the sound of the final whistle. The goal was Kollie’s first for the club while Varney Sando got his second league goal of the season.
Meanwhile, LISCR FC remains third in Group B with 11 points from seven games
