Liberia grabbed a crucial win over Zimbabwe in the CAF 2019 AFCON Qualifiers at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports complex in Paynesville on Sunday, November 18 with three LISCR FC players being featured out of the four making the match day squad.
Ashley Williams got his second consecutive start with the senior national team along with Allen Njie who was making his fourth competitive appearance for Liberia. The duo played the entire match while center defender, Kemoh Kamara was a second half substitute. Kemoh was introduced right at the start of the second half as he replaced Alvin Marconnel.
William Jebor scored the only goal in the 72nd minute to help Liberia beat Zimbabwe. The win takes Liberia second in Group G with seven points from five games. The Lone Star are a point behind league leaders, Zimbabwe.
The Lone Star will need a win away at DR Congo in their last group game to qualify automatically for the 2019 nations cup. However, a point away at DR Congo can help the Lone Star reach Cameroon depending on the results from Zimbabwe and Congo Brazziville game. If Zimbabwe managed a draw or win against Congo that is seated bottom of the log with five points, a draw will be enough for Liberia to qualify. Meanwhile, a defeat for Zimbabwe at home against Congo will mean nothing for Liberia if they draw away at DR Congo.
